Hello lovely people! How are you??
This post will be a nice, short and sweet post about my ideas for my campaign video!
Quite obviously I chose to do a parody of MC Hammer's "Can't Touch This" because it of course fits in with my campaign and also gives me the chance to really take my campaign one leap further without straying away from my theme!
Anyway! It was not a quick and simple process! By the time I released it on Youtube it had actually been in the making for a good three-ish weeks. That's coming up with an outline for the concept of the video, analysing the original video to note down any continuous shots that we could take across to mine, finding a solid backing track, the lyrics, recording the lyrics, getting other campaign materials for props (my t-shirt), organising other people for the video (community collaboration!), and - most importantly - finding someone willing and with the right set of skills and equipment to film and edit the thing!
I want to make a special thank you to Ryan for his patience, enthusiasm and effort that he put into my video! I seriously do not know what I would have done without him!!
It took us four hours one Saturday afternoon to film all of my bits! We filmed this in the first week after Online Campaigning had begun. We were super lucky with the weather as well!! It was sunny for the entirety of our filming session and then as soon as we got home it started to rain! :D
The Concept:
Originally I had thought about just filming me and a couple of friends for my campaign video. However that didn't seem inclusive enough! After all, I'm going for a position of "engagement". So that's when I started asking other people if they wanted to be in my video! It took a lot of asking before I finally got hold of some people. But it allowed for me to go to student groups (in particular sport teams), talk with them and discuss ideas. I thoroughly enjoyed it!! I got to see sides of the uni that I'd never ventured into (ie. the Athletics Union)! :D
I took my Go Pro and we had a lot of fun with it!
Although the Engagement Zone is responsible for RAG and Student Enterprise, it is also responsible for Communications and Publicity. So by going to Sports teams and dancers, it gave me the opportunity to demonstrate how we could potentially develop publicity together as a team - were I to get the role! It's more than posters, it's footage that they can use to promote their society at the Bunfight in September or online. To quote my video: "Promote some material" and "I'll help you!"
Facebook users are loosing interest in written posts, so I've then been posting small clips from our sessions together on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter so that others can see what we've been getting up to. It's interactive and much more interesting than reading ten lines and clicking on a Facebook page link.
I believe that our publicity needs to be promoted further than posters. So what better way than with a Go Pro on the front of an athlete or video blog from them? It is so much more creative and fun!
Success?
Within the first 24 hours of the video's release it had had over 350 views!! For a student elections video, on a Youtube channel that doesn't have a massive following: that felt incredible!
I've only promoted it once but I'm trying to switch up the way the information I campaign.
I'll promote it again at the beginning of next week and see what happens! :D
Second video?
Amazingly, I've had a lot of positive feedback so I've kept on filming with other societies and teams! Also I liked the idea of making a Go Pro video with everyone who was willing in it! I'm hoping to get this edited and out during voting week!
Due to the lack of time/conflicting schedules, not everyone was able to film before we put the final edit together.
So, it's time to make a video solely featuring the community!! :D
Stay tuned!! #vphannahtime
Vlogging (video blogging):
My original plan was to vlog my campaign journey, and this honestly did start out quite well. However as deadlines, meetings, campaigning events began to kick in, it became a lot harder to remember to vlog. Also, would you really have liked to see me working solid hours in the library?! ;) There is a small clip where I vlogged in town when I bought all my campaign materials, but I'm not so sure it's worth releasing as it's own clip.
Also, while I love to vlog and love watching them, it didn't seem like the smartest of ideas to do this while talking to other people either! Ethics, people, ethics!
I'm now thinking though that I might vlog on Elections Night though so all hope is not lost yet!! :D
Apart from all that though there's not really much to say other than I hope you've enjoyed my video - the link is below - and as always: if you have any questions please comment or get in touch!! Hopefully I'll see you some time during campaigning week!!
Have a great weekend!! #vphannahtime
